The GBA is part of the sixth generation of video game consoles. The original model does not have an illuminated screen; Nintendo addressed that with the release of a redesigned model with a frontlit screen, the Game Boy Advance SP, in 2003. A newer revision of the redesign was released in 2005, with a backlit screen.
At the time of release, the GBA was celebrated for its amazing games and nearly SNES quality visuals. Trash Bandatcoot who claimed that an official GBA emulator is coming to the Nintendo Switch. In the tweet, they posted a picture of some of the potential GBA games coming to the Switch. The picture also indicated that the console could possibly utilize the GBA emulator developed by Nintendo codenamed “Sloop”. I hope they rerelease a small Gameboy device that can play all of their Retro Console libraries & sell it for $99 bucks.

Nintendo’s still promoting N64, and we haven’t even had all the pre-announced N64 games yet. Plenty of first party games to pull from the Gameboy family. Id expect GBA games to be locked behind the expansion pass but GBC games to be regular sonic games additions.

While not a requirement, most carts have “Nintendo” or the oval nintendo logo printed on the board just above the pins. Not being there isn’t an instant tell, but warrants further scrutiny. I can see how some folks feel it doesn’t matter buying reproduction cartridges since on the secondary market the money is not going directly to the producers of the content anyway.

With a little luck, we’ll see them arrive before the year is over. With even more luck, they’ll decide to throw fans a bone and put Gameboy and Gameboy Colour in the normal tier instead of the more expensive Expansion Pack tier. It’s for this reason that I think Nintendo would more likely throw Gameboy and GBA games in the expansion pack. The basic tier has ‘value enough’ so put them in the more expensive tier. Might also get more people to upgrade to the Expansion Pack tier.
This game was the first title to show Yoshi’s signature flutter jump and his ability to turn enemies into eggs. It also features my favourite Nintendo character of all time; Shy Guy. The simplified controls made it easy to play on the go, and the graphics were pretty good for the time too.
